Having Card Issues

The "Unable to save card (Refused)" error in CleanCloud generally occurs when your payment processor (typically Stripe) attempts to validate a card and the issuing bank declines the request. Since this is a "Refused" status specifically for saving a card, it usually points to a failure during the initial $0 or $1 authorization check used to verify the account.

Common Causes & Troubleshooting

  • Bank/Issuer Blocks: This is the most frequent cause. Many banks block "off-session" or "zero-dollar" authorizations by default to prevent fraud.

    • Action: Call your bank and ask them to "whitelist" transactions from CleanCloud or their payment partner (Stripe).

  • Unsupported Card Types: Some businesses or processors do not accept prepaid cards, certain debit cards that require a PIN, or HSA/FSA cards for laundry services.

    • Action: Try a standard credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex) instead of a debit or prepaid card.

  • Cross-Border Restrictions: If your card was issued in a different country than where the business is located, the bank may auto-refuse the "Save Card" request.

    • Action: Verify your billing address matches exactly what the bank has on file, including the ZIP code.

  • Insufficient Funds: Even though you aren't "buying" anything yet, the bank may check for a small balance (often $1.00) to ensure the account is active.
